About L & N Credit Union

L & N Credit Union was originally chartered in 1952 by Mr. D. C. Spain. The credit union was located in the back of a hardware store in Tarrant, Alabama. Mr. Spain established the credit union to provide railroad employees an alternative to pawning their railroad pocket watches in times of need. He started the credit union with his own money and a philosophy of co-workers helping each other, by saving and borrowing from themselves.

Years later, the credit union moved to our current location, although still in the back of the hardware store. The building was later destroyed by an 18 wheeler accident. At that time, the credit union was able to purchase the land and construct our current building.

Many years have come and gone but the core values and credit union principles Mr. Spain intended remain unchanged.

To be the primary financial institution within our field of membership. We will provide quality financial products and services to our members. Our goal is to offer value to our membership in loan rates, deposit rates, products, and exceptional member service. We will strive to provide a challenging work environment for our employees that encourages, develops, and rewards hard work and excellence.

Membership Eligibility

You are eligible to become an L & N member if you are in any of the following categories:

• An employee or retiree of The City of Tarrant.
• An employee or retiree of CSX Transportation or other affiliated companies.
• An employee or retiree of other designated groups or organizations.
• Family members, related by blood or marriage, to any L & N Credit Union member.

Once a member, always a member.

Your membership is for a lifetime. It is not affected by a job change or retirement. The only requirement is that you keep at least $25 in your regular share (savings) account.

How to join.
Just fill out a membership application, deposit at least $25 into a regular share account and start taking advantage of the services available at your credit union. It’s just that easy, so stop by and join today.

Important information about procedures for opening a new account:

Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record all information that identifies each person who opens an account. What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We will also ask to see your unexpired driver’s license or other identifying documents.
